September 30th, 2019 is the deadline cutoff to sign up for the SBEA Sick Bank. The district will be sending out information shortly to those who have signed up. Please keep an eye out for an e-mail from HR.
Previously when our members needed additional sick days, in case of serious, prolonged illness or injury, the member would have to ask for a donation of personal days from the membership. This process no longer exists. A much better system now exists, where members can donate two (2) sick days up front to join the Sick Bank, and then, if necessary, apply to the bank to withdraw sick days to ensure that while a prolonged illness or injury occurs, you can be paid at your full salary by using these withdrawn days. You must first use all accumulated sick days given to you by the district, then you can apply for additional days from the bank to continue full pay.
This is very “inexpensive” insurance policy against serious illness or injury. The only cost is two sick days up front. As the bank is depleted, sick bank members will be asked to add an additional day over time.
