The NEA and NJEA Political Action Committees (PAC) fight on our behalf at the National and State levels to make sure that education friendly legislators are elected to office, as well as fight to make sure that they are doing their job to fight for public education while they are in office. In recent years, the work of the PAC has largely focused on campaigning/endorsing education friendly candidates during elections, fighting for our pensions, anti-privatization, salaries, benefits, and much more. Members can choose to contribute monies out of their paycheck towards the Political Action Committee’s work. Monies collected into this fund go directly towards local campaigns to elect education friendly candidates. Click here for more information about PAC. Members who would like to start contributing to the PAC fund or would like to increase their contribution to the fund can request a form by contacting Tracey Ricco, Vice President of Membership, via email at email@example.com.
The SBEA Scholarship Fund is an awesome program that grants scholarships to South Brunswick graduating seniors EVERY year! This program is 100% funded by our own SBEA members. Every paycheck, our members donate monies to be able to grant these awards to our students. Our scholarship program has been a long standing tradition and a source of pride for our Association, as it has assisted many students to attend a college they may not have otherwise had the means to attend. Members who would like to start contributing to our fund or would like to increase their contribution to the fund can request a form by contacting Tracey Ricco, Vice President of Membership, via email at firstname.lastname@example.org.
Dues are Tax Deductible: You can claim your Union Dues on your Federal Taxes. Under Deductions & Credits there is a section for Teacher or other Job related expenses. Look on your (1040 form) Schedule A for the page where you list your itemized deductions. It is under Job Related/Employment Expenses. It is the same page where you list charitable donations. Please refer to your December 30th pay stub for the dues you paid. Look for the year-to-date under the line NJEA Teachers.
